Learning Outcomes for Sonic Arts
The Sonic Arts program prepares you to become a working audio professional, such as a composer, sound designer, audio engineer, or music producer.
In the program, you will learn how to use industry-standard tools to create, record, and edit music, sound effects, and other audio assets that are in-demand for a variety of media-based industries.
Upon graduation, you will be able to:
- Create original sound for a range of media including film, television, and immersive experiences by translating abstract concepts and emotions into effective sound experiences.
- Operate industry-standard software and hardware for recording, editing, mixing and project management tools.
- Identify and analyze various sound elements and their impact on storytelling and emotional engagement by employing trained and refined critical listening skills to discern nuances in sound quality, timbre, and spatialization.
- Describe the ways in which music acts as a cultural defining force that informs various identities.
- Collaborate effectively with directors, producers, and other team members to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Communicate and present sound concepts and decisions clearly and persuasively.
- Effectively critique the work of others, and professionally receive critique from others.
- Understand the theoretical foundations and historical evolution of sound in different media and apply theoretical knowledge that informs creative and technical decisions.
- Plan, organize, and manage projects from conception to completion, considering budget, time constraints, and resources and adhering to ethical and legal standards including copyright and intellectual property rights.
